App of the Week: Recco
This week, the Accidental Locavore looks at Recco, an app that combines restaurant reviews with social media. If I could figure out how to use this, it might have some redeeming value. However, as soon as this is posted, Recco is getting deleted. First of all, it doesn’t really work on the iPad although it says it does. Secondly, it doesn’t really work, although the NY Times implied that it did. When I click on the map, it shows me Korean restaurants on the west coast of Italy (certainly the first place I’d be looking for good bi bim bop), nothing in the United States.
If you follow someone, say one of their dozen “experts” like Sara Jenkins, you stand a better chance of finding something in your general area, but hey, it might not be a restaurant. She’s got a hardware store listed in her reviews.
So, sorry Recco, when it comes to getting recommendations for restaurants, e-mailing or texting a friend is so much easier than downloading an app, figuring out how to use it and then getting recommendations for Korean restaurants in Italy…
